U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer in Miami, Florida, for Meliza Campos-Sanchez, a Cuban national charged with child abuse and arson.
Campos-Sanchez was arrested after Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call on Sunday, August 16, regarding an intentional fire in a Miami home. Authorities reportedly discovered videos on her Instagram account showing her pouring melted wax onto herself and one of her daughters, and later setting articles of clothing on fire in her kitchen. She was taken for a mental health evaluation before being booked into jail.
She faces charges of two counts of neglect child, cruelty toward child: child abuse, and arson. ICE lodged the detainer with the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, requesting that officials not release her. A DHS Spokesperson said, "If it weren’t for the Biden Administration’s reckless open-border policies, criminals like this woman would have never been able to enter our country."
