Newsweek is reporting that Graham Platner announced his withdrawal from the Maine Senate race. The state Democratic party has until July 27 to name a replacement candidate. Platner attributed his departure to the party machine cutting off his funds, according to Newsweek.
Newsweek also reports that President Donald J Trump stated the U.S. is "back in a hot war with Iran," declaring the "ceasefire is over." Trump referred to the Iranian regime as "scum" and "sick people." The publication said the U.S. is conducting strikes again after Iran reportedly fired on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted U.S. allies in the Gulf. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) related to the conflict is now "in shreds," Newsweek reported. Trump commented on Iran's nuclear capabilities, saying their "nuclear dust" is "so far underground, nobody is going to be able to get it except us because we have the equipment." He added that he would "go in [and get it] when they're completely either eliminated or an agreement is made." Newsweek cited Nate Silver, indicating that Trump's approval rating has recently increased to its highest point since spring.
