Sierra Club is reporting that the Trump administration has been working on a secret plan for over a year to transfer public land within Yosemite National Park to a private developer. It said this news emerged as Americans celebrated National Park Week and the 110th anniversary of the National Park Service, during which President Donald J Trump publicly pledged to protect national parks. The organization stated that this alleged "back-room deal" to sell off shared public lands for private profit threatens the future of all national parks and breaks a 150-year promise to protect Yosemite. Sierra Club Executive Director Loren Blackford said, "Yosemite is not Donald Trump's to give away... We will use every tool we have to stop this." The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 to prevent private logging and mining in Yosemite and successfully fought to restore the park in 1906.
