Mayor Karen Bass will tomorrow assume the role of Chair of the LA Metro Board, delivering the State of the Agency Address and outlining her vision for an affordable, safe, and reliable public transit system.
Mayor Bass emphasized her commitment to making public transit the “obvious and sustainable choice,” aiming for a long-term financial strategy to achieve a fare-free system. She highlighted the importance of accessible transportation for students, workers, and families, building on existing free and reduced fare programs. “Transit is one of the most powerful tools we have to change lives,” said Mayor Bass.
Her priorities as Chair will focus on safety, affordability, reliability, and readiness for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Bass plans to expand on Metro's success during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where it safely transported nearly 45,000 fans for the first two matches in Los Angeles. She believes a world-class transit system creates opportunities, good-paying jobs, and supports local businesses.
