Governor Kim Reynolds has announced the appointment of Patrick Tomka as the new Chief Operating Officer for the Office of the Governor, effective immediately. Tomka, who has served as the governor's Senior Tax and Economic Policy Advisor since October 2021, will also retain his current policy responsibilities in his new role.

Tomka replaces Jacob Nicholson, who recently transitioned to become the Chief Efficiency Officer for the Iowa Board of Regents. Nicholson joined Governor Reynolds' senior staff in November 2022, following a tenure at the Iowa Department of Homeland Security since 2008.

Governor Reynolds praised both individuals, saying, "I am fortunate to have had strong leaders on my team who have played significant roles in making Iowa an even better place." She added, "Our state government is more efficient and effective today because of Jake Nicholson’s contributions... Patrick Tomka is a trusted advisor I can rely on in any circumstance. His leadership as Chief Operating Officer will be vital as we complete the work of my administration over the coming months."

This appointment aims to ensure the administration remains focused on serving the people of Iowa through its final days.
