The Sierra Club is reporting that America's public lands are currently facing "sweeping attacks" from the Trump administration, which it describes as some of the most significant in generations. The environmental organization is seeking to raise $65,000 by the end of the month to fund urgent campaigns aimed at protecting these lands and holding anti-environment politicians accountable.
The Sierra Club said the administration's actions could lead to roads being carved into remaining wilderness areas, altering landscapes previously untouched by industrial development. It highlighted dangers for wildlife and their habitats due to increased logging, drilling, and mining, which could fragment ecosystems. The organization also expressed concern that trails, campsites, and backcountry experiences might fall into disrepair, potentially leading to more dangerous visitor experiences due to limited emergency services.
Furthermore, the Sierra Club warned of increased pressure on forests, waterways, habitats, and ecosystems, which it believes would accelerate the climate crisis and result in fewer places for future generations to explore. The group emphasized its 130-year history of defending these landscapes through legal advocacy, grassroots organizing, and public education.
