The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) and its employees have pledged a record $661,000 to the United Way of the Coastal Empire, significantly boosting support for individuals and families across a five-county region. This substantial contribution underscores a long-standing commitment to community welfare.
Kimberly Waller, President and CEO of United Way of the Coastal Empire, expressed deep gratitude, saying, "Every gift to United Way’s Community Fund helps provide essential resources and services that create stability and opportunity for families across the Coastal Empire." She highlighted the importance of GPA's generosity in improving lives throughout the region.
GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch emphasized the organization's core values. "Community is one of our core values, and this campaign demonstrates how our employees put that value into action," Lynch said. He noted that these contributions are crucial in a time when many local families face economic challenges, ensuring vital services remain available.
The funds will support United Way of the Coastal Empire's community fund, which invests in over 80 programs delivered by more than 50 agencies in the greater Savannah area. These initiatives provide critical services such as housing, healthcare, food assistance, childcare, workforce development, financial education, and crisis intervention. Roughly one in three residents in the region benefit directly or indirectly from these supported services.
GPA's partnership with United Way dates back decades, with employee campaigns recorded as early as 1977. Port officials said the continued growth in giving reflects both strong employee engagement and the organization’s dedication to strengthening the communities it serves.
