The seismic event occurred at a depth of 22 kilometers. Its epicenter was located approximately 68.2 kilometers (42.3 miles) southeast of Adak, Alaska.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the event has been reviewed by a seismologist. This earthquake supersedes a previous event, ATtfq16a.
