The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in a joint report with the USAF, forecasts moderate solar activity and an escalation in geomagnetic storm levels over the next three days. The report, issued on August 25, 2026, noted high solar activity during the preceding 24 hours.
Currently, four sunspot regions are visible on the solar disk. Solar activity is expected to remain moderate through August 28, with a 15% chance of an X-class solar flare each day. There is also a 55% chance of M-class flares daily.
The geomagnetic field, which was quiet to unsettled, is predicted to intensify. It is expected to be quiet on August 26, then rise to unsettled to minor storm levels on August 27, and further to active to major storm levels on August 28. Protons also have a slight chance of exceeding threshold levels over the three-day period, with high latitudes facing a 60% chance of major-severe storms by August 28.
