The Washington Post is reporting that Ken Paxton, the state attorney general, defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the Texas Republican primary runoff. Paxton is a Republican endorsed by Donald J Trump, making him the second Trump-backed candidate in less than two weeks to oust an incumbent senator. Paxton will now advance to face Democrat James Talarico in the November general election. The Post said the primary contest was the most expensive Senate primary in history. It added that Cornyn's defeat concludes his storied career in Texas and national politics.
