A Harrison County man, Jason W. Smith, 52, of Bowerston, Ohio, has been sentenced to 188 months (15.6 years) in federal prison for child sexual abuse offenses, including the receipt and distribution of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) and possession of child pornography.
U.S. District Judge Pamela A. Barker handed down the sentence after Smith pleaded guilty in February to charges of Receipt and Distribution of Visual Depictions of Real Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct, and Possession of Child Pornography. He was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $42,000 in restitution to victims.
Court documents reveal that from July to September 2025, Smith actively received and distributed numerous digital files depicting the sexual abuse of children. Investigators found him participating in multiple online chat groups with other child predators. A search of his residence uncovered electronic devices containing over 1,000 images and videos of CSAM, predominantly involving the rape and torture of toddlers, along with multiple sex-dolls.
The FBI Cleveland Division led the investigation, which also confirmed Smith's status as a previously convicted sex offender. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer J. King prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
