Newsweek is reporting that President Donald Trump visited New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Monday, where an hourlong private meeting gave way to warm public remarks and discussion of developing Sunnyside Yard in Queens.

It said Mamdani stated the city and the White House would deepen discussions over a plan for 12,000 homes and 30,000 jobs. Trump sounded intrigued, saying, "Maybe they have a shot at doing it," according to Newsweek.

Newsweek said the meeting came after two men who spent much of the past year describing each other as dangers to the republic looked comfortable discussing zoning. It described the encounter as an oddly New York peace treaty, saying that after months of ideological artillery, everybody met at the property line.

In a separate item, Newsweek is reporting that Trump's new force has no budget, no powers and no statute, while the five it collides with have all three.

Newsweek also published a note from Editor-in-Chief Jennifer H. Cunningham, who said there is no shortage of news but that trustworthy news is harder to find. She said the outlet believes readers should be free to make up their own minds and that it follows facts, not factions. She said a Newsweek membership offers unlimited access to journalism providing context, clarity and perspective, including ad-free browsing and exclusive reporting. Newsweek said it is part of the Trust Project, which focuses on honesty, accuracy and fairness in journalism.
