SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0257 AM CDT Fri Oct 13 2017 Valid 141200Z - 151200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA... ...Synopsis... An upper trough over portions of the northern Rockies and Intermountain West at the start of the period is expected to move quickly eastward on Saturday, as a weak upper ridge develops over portions of the West. A relatively strong surface ridge over the Great Basin will maintain offshore flow over portions of California, resulting in continued threat of elevated to potentially critical fire weather conditions. ...Southern California... Critical fire weather conditions may be ongoing at the start of the period on Saturday morning across the coastal ranges and foothills to the north and northwest of Los Angeles, as northerly winds of 20-30 mph combine with very poor overnight RH recovery. As the surface ridge settles into the Great Basin, winds will shift to northeasterly by afternoon. As RH values drop below 10%, critical conditions may expand southward into portions of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties by late morning. Critical conditions will likely persist through the night into Sunday morning, given the expected nocturnal increase in offshore flow and very poor overnight RH recovery. ...Portions of central/northern California... Near-critical conditions may be ongoing on Saturday morning across portions of the Sacramento Valley and also across Bay Area hills/ranges, due to poor overnight RH recovery and northerly /northeasterly winds of 15-25 mph (with higher gusts). Critically low RH will develop quickly during the day on Saturday, with minimum values below 10% in many areas. Some decrease in winds is expected Saturday afternoon, and there is some uncertainty regarding the duration of concurrently critical wind and RH. Due to this uncertainty, no critical designation has been made for this area at this time, but an upgrade is possible in future outlooks as wind/RH forecasts are refined. ...Portions of Lower Colorado River Valley... Warm/dry conditions and relatively strong northerly winds will result in elevated to locally critical conditions across portions of the lower Colorado River Valley on Saturday afternoon. ..Dean.. 10/13/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product...
