Dear Lynne,

BREAKING ON CAPITOL HILL: House Natural Resources Committee just passed "No More Parks" policy that threatens Muir Woods, the Grand Canyon, and other iconic landmarks.

Penned by Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT), this egregious handout to the Trump administration's fossil fuel backers essentially guts the Antiquities Act, eliminating protections for beloved places like Acadia, Grand Teton -- and yes, Muir Woods, created by President Teddy Roosevelt to honor Sierra Club founder John Muir.

The bill also creates a legal mechanism by which presidents can reduce a monument, which we know Trump would put to work immediately -- carving up breathtaking plateaus, sacred indigenous sites, and waters critical to biodiversity and handing them over to his oil and gas cronies. And it's headed to the House floor for a vote, so we need to move fast.

Your emergency gift today will help the Sierra Club stop Bishop, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and President Trump from selling off our country's public lands by engaging key, pro-environment lawmakers while scaling up our legal and grassroots strategies. Please, rush $5 or whatever you can now. Please, we don't have a moment to waste -- rush your emergency monthly gift of $5 or more before midnight Friday. Help us protect treasures like Muir Woods and the Grand Canyon now -- before they're gone forever.

Bishop has for years opposed the Antiquities Act. What's giving his bill such momentum now?

Easy: an Interior Secretary whose political career has been bankrolled by Big Oil -- remember, Zinke just three weeks ago took a $12,000, taxpayer-funded flight on an oil exec's plane -- and a President who's made "drill, baby, drill" a rallying cry, both of whom want to sell off our monuments to their Big Energy cronies.

Bishop's bill would help them do just that -- ending a president's ability to designate national monuments based on historic landmarks, historic and prehistoric structures, and other objects of historic or scientific interest; limiting the size of national monuments; and as noted, giving the president a way to legally reduce monuments.

The Sierra Club is determined to stop this wrongheaded, polluter-serving bill on the floor -- but to do that, we need your help right now. Please, contribute $5 or more now, before our founder John Muir's and President Teddy Roosevelt's legacies are permanently wiped out by chainsaws and drills. Please rush your emergency donation of $5 or more to the Sierra Club now.

Like you and me, most of the country wants to see our precious public lands protected for future generations. With your help, we'll make sure that happens.

Thank you for your determination,

Michael Brune
