SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0216 AM CDT Thu Oct 12 2017 Valid 131200Z - 141200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOUNTAINS... ...Synopsis... ...Southern California Coastal Ranges and Foothills... Breezy north winds will be ongoing Friday morning and continue into Saturday morning with elevated to critical fire weather conditions expected. Sustained wind speeds around 15-25 mph and some higher gusts in wind favored areas are expected during the day on Friday. As temperatures warm into the 70s and 80s, RH values will fall into the single digit and teens. Some overnight recovery will occur in the coastal areas and lower elevations, but RH values will remain critically low in higher elevations for the duration of the forecast period. Wind speeds may increase some Friday night into Saturday morning as the pressure gradient becomes more favorable for gusty northeast offshore winds. ...Portions of Northern California... Conditions will be similar on Friday to those in the Day 1/Thursday period with elevated to locally critical fire weather conditions expected. Breezy north winds of 10-20 mph with some higher gusts are possible during the morning before a brief reprieve during the afternoon. Wind will again increase during the nighttime hours in higher elevations into Saturday morning. Some guidance suggest wind speeds late Friday night into Saturday morning could be strong enough to warrant an upgrade to critical, but confidence is low and trends should be monitored closely. RH values will still be low, generally in the 12-25 percent range. ..Leitman.. 10/12/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... Read more
