Tell your senator to keep the Arctic Refuge off-limits to oil rigs!
Trump and his cronies are desperate to drill in the Arctic Refuge -- they've even called Alaska the "centerpiece" of their plan for energy dominance.1 And yesterday, their plan came one step closer to reality. The House voted in favor of a budget that would pave the way to allow drilling in the Refuge.
The budget is about to move to the Senate -- tell them to reject any proposal that includes revenue from drilling in the Refuge.
The Arctic Refuge is one of the world's last untouched wild places, long recognized as a landscape too special to drill. But Trump's budget includes revenue from Arctic drilling -- revenue that could only come from the Refuge. He's hoping that by burying this plan deep in the fine print of his budget, he can sell out the Refuge without raising an outcry.
The Arctic Refuge is more fragile than ever -- it's already warming twice as fast as the rest of the country. It can never recover from the damage caused by seismic blasts and drilling. Protecting the Refuge is also a matter of human rights and food security for Alaska Native peoples like the Gwich'in, who rely on its bounty for subsistence hunting.
Tell your senators that there should be no place in the budget for drilling in the Arctic Refuge.
This is a marathon, not a sprint. For decades, Big Oil has tried every trick in the book in an attempt to get access to the Refuge. We've stood up to them at every turn, and as the budget works its way through Congress, we need to oppose them every step of the way to keep the Arctic Refuge off-limits to drilling.
