Stop Trump's hidden attack on the Arctic Refuge

By Newsroom America Feeds at 21 Sep 2017

Trump's budget calls for drilling in the Arctic Refuge. Tell Congress that there is no place for Arctic drilling in the budget!

Dear Eric,

How do you get away with drilling in America's last unspoiled wilderness? Bury your scheme on page 56 of your budget plan, and hope nobody notices. This is what Trump is trying to do with his 2018 budget -- the plan currently before Congress includes revenue from drilling in the Arctic Refuge.

Congress is about to vote on the budget -- demand they reject any proposal that includes revenue from drilling in the Arctic Refuge.

The Arctic Refuge is one of the world's last untouched wild places, long recognized as a landscape too special to drill. It is a crucial birthing ground for iconic species like polar bears, caribou, and muskoxen. Alaska Native tribes like the Gwich'in still rely on the bounty of the Refuge for subsistence hunting, and they have been calling for its protection for over 30 years.

And today, the Arctic is more fragile than ever -- Alaska is warming twice as fast as the rest of the country. New oil and gas drilling will make climate change worse and further damage to Alaska and special places like the Arctic Refuge.

Plus, Trump is not just stopping at the budget -- just this week, we learned that he and Interior Secretary Zinke are secretly working to bypass 40-year-old regulations forbidding oil companies from conducting seismic tests in the Refuge.1

Take action today to stop Trump's sneaky attempts to allow drilling in the pristine Refuge. Tell Congress to reject any budget that would allow Big Oil and Gas in the Arctic Refuge.

Thanks for all your work,

Lena Moffitt Senior Director, Our Wild America Campaign Sierra Club

P.S. Congress needs to hear from other activists like you who want to protect the Arctic for generations to come. Please share this with your friends and family.
