Vital Signs: Recent Trends in Stroke Death Rates United States, 20002015 https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/66/wr/mm6635e1.htm?s_cid=mm6635e1_e Quanhe Yang, PhD; Xin Tong, MPH; Linda Schieb, MSPH; et al.
After more than four decades of decline, stroke death rates in the United States have declined more slowly, stalled, or reversed among some subpopulations in recent years. Because of the unfavorable changes in the rate of decline in stroke mortality, an estimated 30,000 excess stroke deaths might have occurred during 20132015. Continuing surveillance of stroke and strategically identifying disparities in specific risk factors, incidence, and geography that might be driving the unfavorable changes in the rate of decline are important so that targeted interventions can be implemented to prevent strokes in vulnerable populations.
