SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1148 AM CDT Sat Aug 12 2017 Valid 121700Z - 131200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN OREGON... The latest guidance supports the ongoing forecast. Lightning activity persisted through the overnight hours across portions of the Pacific Northwest, and is expected to ramp up once again by this afternoon. Despite precipitable water values nearing an inch, dry low-levels will limit the overall rainfall potential. This will result in another day of isolated-to-scattered dry thunderstorms. ..Marsh.. 08/12/2017 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0239 AM CDT Sat Aug 12 2017/ ...Synopsis... A shortwave trough will move from the Pacific Northwest into the northern Rockies today, resulting in a continued breakdown of the midlevel ridge across the area. Late in the period, a larger-scale upper trough will begin to build into the Northwest, as a cold front begins to sweep across portions of the Pacific Northwest. ...Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies... In conjunction with the shortwave trough moving across the region later today, thunderstorm development is expected across portions of the interior Pacific Northwest into the northern Rockies. While PW values of 0.75" to 1" may support locally wetting rainfall, warm/dry conditions, deep/well-mixed boundary layers, and moderate storm motions will tend to limit the rainfall potential with this activity. The greatest coverage is still expected across portions of central into eastern OR, and the scattered dry thunderstorm delineation has been maintained across this region, given the potential for scattered thunderstorms to impact areas with abundant dry fuels. An isolated dry thunderstorm threat will surround this region, as thunderstorms develop into portions of ID/far western MT by early evening. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product...
