Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0214 PM CDT Fri Aug 11 2017 Valid 121200Z - 131200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS EASTERN OREGON... ...Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies... Latest deterministic and high resolution guidance suggest scattered thunderstorm coverage during the afternoon across eastern/northeastern OR. A deeply mixed boundary layer, warm/dry surface conditions, and PW values around 0.75" to 1" will support a mix of wet and dry thunderstorms. These thunderstorms amidst the very dry fuels across the region will result in a critical fire weather threat. Isolated thunderstorms are still anticipated across the remainder of the region as the shortwave trough moves through, with the threat persisting into the late evening and overnight across ID. ..Mosier.. 08/11/2017 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0115 AM CDT Fri Aug 11 2017/ ...Synopsis... A mid-level ridge over the Pacific Northwest will continue to break down Saturday in response to a shortwave trough pushing into the region. Very weak/convectively modified perturbations may be trapped under the ridge from parts of eastern Idaho into Wyoming, in a zone of confluence fostered by a shortwave trough over central/eastern Montana. ...Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies... The eastward advance of the trough will gradually shift favorable values of mid-level moisture/instability eastward this weekend as well. In turn, the threat of dry thunderstorms and new fire starts will shift eastward slightly on Saturday. Thunderstorms should gradually become wetter from west to east, as tropospheric moisture rises ahead of the trough. However, this will be offset some across Oregon/Washington by quicker storm motions owing to increased mid-level flow. Farther east, conditions will be drier, but weak anticyclonic flow aloft may yield slower motions.
