SPC 0600Z Day 2 Outlook
Day 2 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1132 PM CDT Sun Apr 15 2018 Valid 171200Z - 181200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... A few thunderstorms are possible from the central Rockies into Iowa Tuesday. ...Discussion... Strong short-wave trough is forecast to eject across the Great Basin into the central Plains during the latter half of the day2 period as a 100kt 500mb speed max translates into northeast KS. In response to this feature, surface low will evolve in the lee of the central Rockies then track into northern MO by 18/12z. Moisture is expected to be limited ahead of this system as air mass modification across the western Gulf Basin will be delayed due to earlier frontal passage. For this reason it appears buoyancy should remain weak but likely adequate for a few thunderstorms north of the aforementioned jet. Steep lapse rates are expected to aid elevated instability and low-level warm advection should focus ascent/convection northeast of the surface low track. ..Darrow.. 04/16/2018 Read more
