SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0234 PM CDT Mon Mar 26 2018 Valid 271200Z - 281200Z ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE BIG BEND OF TEXAS... No changes have been made to the ongoing forecast. Latest guidance continues to support a hot/dry airmass across the Big Bend of Texas. However, uncertainty exists as to the extent to which low-level flow increases to critical thresholds. Regional, and some global-scale, models keep winds relatively light. Given this uncertainty will leave the current forecast as is and defer any significant changes to later outlooks. ..Marsh.. 03/26/2018 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0151 AM CDT Mon Mar 26 2018/ ...Synopsis... The western U.S. trough will begin to move out of the Desert Southwest and into the Southern Plains throughout the forecast period, while strong northwesterly flow enters the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies. At the surface, a cold front will continue to make a southward progression across the Central/Southern Plains as high pressure settles into the Upper Midwest. ...Portions of Southeast New Mexico and Southwest Texas... A small area of enhanced mid-level winds located along the base/east of the mid-level trough should allow surface winds over the region to exceed elevated criteria during the afternoon. A small critical area was added across portions of Southwest TX, where sustained winds of 20-25 mph (gusting to 30-35 mph) and RH values of 10-20% will develop in the presence of dry fuels. Minor adjustments were also made to the elevated area across portions of Southwest/West Texas, where southeasterly upslope flow should usher in better low-level moisture. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product...
