Dear Peter,

You know you're making real change when the opposition comes after you, hard.

Tim Huelskamp, President and CEO of the right-wing Heartland Institute, just last week announced "We're going into six different states where the Sierra Club is trying to close coal plants... and saying we need those coal plants."

Their plot is already underway in states like Missouri, where Heartland is attempting to influence the Show-Me State's utility regulators at the PSC to try and undermine renewables -- in defiance of the usual public process -- in order to prop up one of the country's oldest dirty, coal-fired plants.

We're prepared to fight back -- to keep retiring dirty coal plants while mobilizing grassroots power, supporting an economic transition for coal communities, demanding Scott Pruitt's EPA enforce anti-pollution laws and ramping up our efforts in Congress to eliminate dirty fossil fuels. But we can't do it all without changemakers like you. Can you rush your monthly donation of $5 or more before midnight tonight?

Huelskamp was echoed by Heartland fellow and former Peabody Coal Exec Fred Palmer, who said, "We want to make the future as the past was." In other words: powered by dirty fossil fuels.

We know Donald Trump feels the same way -- he promised to bring back coal, and rolled back environmental protections as soon as he came into office. And in addition to Heartland, Trump has a willing accomplice in this anti-environment Congress, which last year undid the Stream Protection Rule to prop up Big Coal.

If we're going to keep coal in the past and ensure our clean energy future, we’ve got to show up once again to fight against Trump, anti-environment Republicans in Congress and Big Energy-backed groups like Heartland. We’ve shown we can do this -- we've already retired 268 dirty coal plants since 2010, and they're retiring even faster since Trump was elected -- but we need your help. Please, sign up to become a monthly donor today.
