SPC 1630Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1001 AM CST Sat Feb 17 2018 Valid 171630Z - 181200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... A couple of lightning strikes may occur across the south-central United States through early afternoon and overnight across the coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest. Otherwise, thunderstorms are not expected. ...Discussion... Decreasing instability, weakening low-level convergence, and the departure of a subtle southern-stream shortwave trough will lead to a diminished thunderstorm threat across the south-central United States this afternoon. Although a lightning strike or two may occur, the threat is too limited for delineation. Elsewhere, as the core of the midlevel wind maximum moves south of the Pacific Northwest overnight, cold midlevel temperatures will steepen low-to-midlevel-lapse rates sufficiently to promote a few lightning strikes across coastal areas. ..Marsh.. 02/17/2018 Read more
