Rex W. Tillerson
Secretary of State
Kuwait City, Kuwait
February 13, 2018
QUESTION: And what do you see the future of relations between Kuwait and the U.S.?
SECRETARY TILLERSON: Well, the U.S.-Kuwait relationship is very strong. We have so many shared interests in terms of security for the region. We spoke about the importance of GCC unity and GCC unity supporting security for the region as well. And we also talked about important opportunities for economic relationships as well.
QUESTION: And where do you see the relation going, actually? Anything implementable? Anything being done right now?
SECRETARY TILLERSON: Well, the most recent transaction is Kuwait’s upgrading of its fighter air force with the purchase of the new F/A-18 fighter aircraft – very important to Kuwait’s defense but also important to the integrated security of the region. And then I think there’ll be other discussions around future economic opportunities as well.
QUESTION: Thank you very much, sir.
SECRETARY TILLERSON: Thank you.
