The Truman Youth Leadership Academy, a one-week summer day camp for middle-school age students, will take place this summer. Facilitated by the Truman School of Public Affairs and the Institute of Public Policy at the University of Missouri, the program aims to teach leadership skills, civic involvement and community service in the hopes of inspiring local youth to become today’s community leaders and tomorrow’s world leaders.
Students will establish foundational concepts based on familiar experiences in their own lives before expanding to national and global concepts. Topics such as positive body image, healthy friendships, volunteering, diversity and inclusion will be covered.
This is the fourth year of the Academy and up to 40 middle-school students selected on a first come, first serve basis will be able to attend. Activities include a community service project and a visit to the Capitol and the Supreme Court of Missouri.
Participants include youth entering the sixth, seventh or eighth grades.
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
