Associate Minister for Primary Industries Louise Upston has welcomed the opening of the next round of funding for erosion control in the Gisborne region. The Ministry of Primary Industries Erosion Control Funding Programme (ECFP) helps eligible land owners in the region contain erosion and improve susceptible land. Improvements were recently made to the programme, including providing upfront funding to reduce the financial burden for land owners and extending the land categories eligible for treatment.

The fact that 138,000 people have switched electricity retailers already this year shows competition is strong and consumers continue to shop around for a good deal on their power bill, says Energy and Resources Minister Judith Collins. "The Whats My Number website is a quick and easy way for New Zealanders to figure out if they are already on the best deal, or if they could be saving on their power bill by switching provider."

Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee has condemned yesterdays test launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea. "UN Security Council resolutions prohibit North Korean ballistic missiles. North Koreas disregard for its obligations under these resolutions continues to be of deep concern," Mr Brownlee says. "New Zealand strongly urges North Korea to start taking responsibility and contribute to the stability to the region.

Disability Issues Minister Nicky Wagner is welcoming a review of the disabled people-led monitoring initiative. The initiative involved training over 50 disabled people to interview other disabled people about their experiences. It is governed by the Convention Coalition Monitoring Group, which monitors how New Zealand is implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
