MD 0790 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 249... FOR PORTIONS OF NORTH TEXAS...SOUTH CENTRAL AND EASTERN OKLAHOMA...AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS
Mesoscale Discussion 0790 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0656 PM CDT Fri May 19 2017 Areas affected...portions of north Texas...south central and eastern Oklahoma...and northwest Arkansas Concerning...Tornado Watch 249... Valid 192356Z - 200200Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 249 continues. SUMMARY...Severe/isolated tornado threat continues across mainly northern/western parts of the watch area. DISCUSSION...Storms have been slow to develop across the bulk of watch 249 this afternoon and evening, with most storms remaining on the northwestern periphery of the watch. Here, bands of thunderstorms -- including several bowing structures -- are ongoing. Hail and locally damaging winds remain the primary concern with these storms, though a brief tornado or two will remain possible within rotating portions of the convective bands. With time, while individual convective clusters moving quickly northeastward, the overall band of convection will spread slowly east across the watch area as the surface cold front advances. Farther south into Texas, a few small isolated/rotating cells have evolved south of Stephenville (the Hamilton/Coryell County vicinity). With storms ongoing just west of this convection across parts of Tornado Watch 246, severe risk will likely remain greater -- in a relative sense -- across the far southern portions of the watch as opposed to areas farther north into the DFW metroplex over the next 1-2 hours. ..Goss.. 05/19/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
