SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0208 AM CDT Thu May 18 2017 Valid 191200Z - 201200Z ...Synopsis... Upper low will likely be centered over CO at the beginning of the period (12Z Friday) before moving northeastward into the central Plains during the late afternoon/evening. Enhanced mid-level flow associated with a shortwave trough moving through the base of the upper low is expected to be in place across the southern High Plains throughout much of the day. Much like Thursday, a surface low is expected over the eastern TX Panhandle/western OK during the afternoon with an associated dry line extending southward/southwestward. Previously mentioned strong flow aloft will work in tandem with deep boundary-layer mixing to support some breezy conditions. These breezy west winds (i.e. 15 to 20 mph) combined with antecedent dry conditions will support an elevated to locally critical fire weather threat across southern NM and adjacent portions of west TX. Elsewhere, another warm and dry day is anticipated across portions of the northern FL/FL Panhandle and adjacent southeast AL/southern GA with highs in the low 90s and afternoon RH values in 30s. However, light winds should mitigate any fire weather threat. ..Mosier.. 05/18/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... Read more
