Hello Sierra Club Members and Supporters,
You are invited to the Sierra Club North County Coastal Group general membership meeting on Monday, April 10th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. It will be held at Alga Norte Park, 6565 Alicante Rd, Carlsbad.
Two special guests are on the lineup. Carlsbad Council Member Cori Schumacher will speak about local environmental issues. Dr Bruce Bekkar, M.D. will address the health impacts of climate change.
Dr. Bekkar left his women's health medical practice in 2013 to devote his time to environmental issues. With a long history of local activism, he is currently the public health representative for the City of San Diego's Climate Action Plan Implementation Working Group, Vice-chair of Del Mar's Sea Level Rise Technical Advisory Committee, the spokesperson for Surfrider Foundation's first coastal impacts of climate change campaign, and a member of Doctors for Climate Health with the American Lung Association in California. He speaks regularly on coastal and health impacts of Climate Change since completing the Climate Reality Leadership Training with Vice President Al Gore and leading scientists in 2015. This past August, Bruce joined Al Gore in a panel discussion in Houston, talking about what leaders can do in their own communities to make a difference with our climate crisis.
Other Agenda Items: Take action to stand up for the environment and preparation for the People's Climate March.
