SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0755 PM CDT Sun Mar 19 2017 Valid 200100Z - 201200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EASTERN IOWA INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS... ...SUMMARY... Marginally severe hail may occur tonight over parts of Iowa and northern Illinois. ...Synopsis... A flat ridge aloft will prevail across the U.S. the remainder of the period, with the amplitude of the ridge being suppressed by a trough moving across central Canada. At the surface, a cold front will continue moving toward the Upper Great Lakes area, while trailing westward across the northern Intermountain region. ...Eastern Iowa into northern Illinois... An increasing low-level jet over the next several hours will contribute both moistening and ascent supportive of scattered elevated convective development around midnight. With most-unstable CAPE in the 1000 to 1500 j/kg range, and increasing flow in the cloud-bearing layer, hail in excess of 1" in diameter remains a possibility with one or two of the strongest storms. ..Goss.. 03/20/2017 Read more
