Chart of the Week: American Auto Industry Is Stronger Than Ever

January 7, 2016 at 4:40 PM ET by Danielle Cohen

Summary:

After seven years of consecutive growth, 2015 marked record sales for the American auto industry.

When President Obama took office in 2009, automobile sales hit a record low. Today, the auto industry is stronger than ever, with record sales in 2015. This is great news for the autoworkers in our country, and for the over 17 million Americans who were able to purchase vehicles this year. Check out proof of the auto industry’s incredible resurgence in this chart:

The Great Recession hit autoworkers and their families hard, but because of their resilience, and decisive action by President Obama, millions of jobs were saved and American auto companies are leading the industry once again.

This milestone marks just one of the many ways that President Obama has worked aggressively to create jobs, rebuild our economy on a stronger foundation for the long term, and expand opportunity for all Americans.
