Summary:

Earlier this month in Paris, the world came together to announce the most ambitious global agreement ever to combat climate change. Watch a message from the President.

On December 12, 2015, nearly 200 countries came together in Paris to announce the most ambitious global agreement ever to combat climate change. Watch a message from President Obama on this historic achievement:

The Paris Agreement establishes the long-term framework the world needs to solve the climate crisis. It's ambitious — with every country, including China and India, setting and committing to their own specific targets to reduce carbon pollution, with incentives to set more stringent reductions every five years. And it includes a strong transparency system — including periodic reviews and independent assessments to hold every country accountable for meeting its commitments.

In short, this agreement will mean less of the carbon pollution that threatens our planet, and it sends a powerful signal that the world is firmly committed to a low-carbon future. Learn more about how this agreement will work.

The Paris Agreement builds on a long list of achievements that President Obama has made to address climate change and protect our environment for our kids and grandkids. And today, we're releasing a new page where you can get the facts on his climate record.

President Obama has taken action to reduce carbon pollution from our power plants through the Clean Power Plan, the biggest step America has ever taken on climate change. He's made the largest investment inclean energy in America’s history, and since he took office, we've increased solar power generation by 30 times and wind power by more than threefold. And we've set strong fuelefficiencystandards that will more than double how far our cars and trucks can go on a gallon of gas.

Those are just a few of the highlights, so check out the full list of measures we've achieved these past seven years on climate change and the environment.
