Two people are dead and four injured following a shooting in the cafeteria at Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington state, police said.
Marysville police administrative commander Robb Lamoureaux said one of the dead was the suspected shooter who was a student at the school, but the identity of the other deceased person has not been revealed.
Four "young people" were injured with three of them sustaining critical head wounds, hospital officials were quoted as saying.
The fourth young man had less severe injuries.
Mr Lamoureaux confirmed the shooting began in the cafeteria, but was unable to say where or how the shooter died. He was confident the shooter acted alone.
Police were first alerted to the shooting when someone called 911 at about 10:40 a.m., he said.
