(Newsroom America) -- The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office in California says after an extensive fifteen day investigation into the murder of 8 year old Leila Fowler, detectives have arrested Leila's 12 year old brother on the charge of homicide.
Leila Fowler was stabbed to death at her home in the small town of Valley Springs.
Her 12-year-old brother told police he found her dead two weeks ago, and sparked a manhunt for a suspect he described as a tall man with long gray hair.
The brother was arrested at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office’s Valley Springs Substation.
Sheriff Gary Kuntz says during the past fifteen days police have conducted an expansive investigation.
"These types of cases require a considerable amount of time, and it was our commitment to make sure that we did as thorough a job as possible.
"We have put over 2000 hours into this investigation to provide Leila Fowler’s family with answers into her murder," he said.
Sheriff Kuntz says it was an ongoing investigation. and he was unable to answer any more questions at this time.
