By Newsroom America Staff at 26 Jul 2012

(Newsroom America) -- Congress will today condemn the "heinous atrocities" that occurred in Aurora, Colorado where suspected gunman James Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 58.

Following a 30 minute debate the House is expected to unanimously condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the atrocities that occurred in Aurora, Colorado.

It will offer its condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who were killed in the attack and express its hope for the rapid and complete recovery of the wounded.

It "applauds the hard work and dedication exhibited by the hundreds of local, State, and Federal officials and the others who offered their support and assistance; and honors the resilience of the community of the City of Aurora and the State of Colorado in the face of such adversity."

Holmes is being held in custody and is expected to be formally charged on Monday. He may face the death penalty.
