(Newsroom America) -- President Obama on Friday took time out of his campaign schedule to lead the nation in prayer and a moment of silence, to honor of all of the victims who were shot or killed earlier at midnight debut showing of the new film, "The Dark Knight Rises," in Aurora, Colo.
"There are going to be other days for politics," Obama said at what was originally scheduled to be a campaign event in Fort Myers, Fla. "This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection."
The president also cancelled his second event, scheduled in Orlando, that was to be held later in the day.
"Such violence, such evil is senseless," Obama said. "If there's anything to take away from this tragedy it's the reminder that life is very fragile. "Our time here is limited and precious."
