(Newsroom America) -- The wife of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney says her husband is eying a woman to be his running mate, and that she likes the idea.
"We've been looking at that and I love that option as well," Ann Romney told CBS News in an interview Wednesday.
She went onto say that she believes her husband's vice president should be "someone that obviously can do the job but will be able to carry through with some of the other responsibilities."
Ann Romney appeared with her husband, who - when asked about his vice presidential search - responded, "that's something I'm keeping close with my team."
He did say, however, that, "As long as I continue to speak about the economy, I'm going to win."
The former Massachusetts governor also said U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts erred in his ruling when he sided with the court's liberal wing to uphold President Obama's signature healthcare law.
He also clarified his position on whether he thought the individual mandate resulted in a new tax on the American people - which is what Roberts said it was - or a penalty, which is what Romney's senior campaign adviser said last week.
"Well, the Supreme Court has the final word. And their final word is that Obamacare is a tax. So it's a tax. It's -- they decided it was constitutional. So it is a tax and it's constitutional. That's -- that's the final word. That's what it is. Now, I agreed with the dissent. I would have taken a different course," Romney said.
Romney went onto defend his own version of a law he signed as governor mandating individuals purchase health insurance. He reiterated a position he has held throughout the Republican primaries and throughout his campaign - that health care solutions should be made on the state level, not the federal level.
The former governor said immediately following the high court's ruling that he would repeal the law if elected president, provided he has enough support to do so in Congress.
