Rodney King Found Dead In Swimming Pool

(Newsroom America) -- Rodney King, whose police beating sparked the Los Angeles riots 20 years ago, has been found dead aged 47.

His fiancee reportedly found his body at the bottom of a swimming pool, but Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances and are conducting a drowning investigation.

When police officers involved in his savage beating in 1991 were acquitted, the verdict sparked clashes between rioters and police which left more than 50 dead and thousands injured.

Rialto Police Captain Randy Deanda was reported as saying King was found "unresponsive" at the bottom of his pool on Sunday and was pronounced dead at 06:11.
