Disco Diva Donna Summer Dies

(Newsroom America) -- Disco star Donna Summer, who helped shape the synth pop and dance music scenes in the 1970's, has died aged aged 63.

Her hits included "Hot Stuff", "I Feel Love" and "Love To Love You Baby."

Her family issued a statement saying "Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Summer won five Grammy Awards and was nominated a further 12 times.

She was the first black artist to win a Grammy in a rock category, with the best rock vocal performance for Hot Stuff in 1979.
